In math, we finished up our unit on patterning. The tests have been marked and sent home in the student's work portfolios. We have begun our our next unit which is on Data Management. This unit focusses on collecting and displaying data using a number of different charts, graphs and diagrams. Many of the diagrams should be familiar to the students from past grades, such as pictographs, bar graphs and circle graphs. Some concepts are new, such as making intervals on a bar graph to display large amounts of data. Here are some students working together to decide the best way to display their given data.
October was a busy month and really seemed to fly by! The students were finishing up some older projects as well as beginning a few new projects and units. In math, we finished up our unit on patterning. The tests have been marked and sent home in the student's work portfolios. We have begun our our next unit which is on Data Management. Some concepts are new, such as making intervals on a bar graph to display large amounts of data. Here are some students working together to decide the best way to display their given data. To go along with the Halloween spirit, we began a short unit on Mystery in Language arts. The students were pretty excited when they got to choose from a wide selection of Goosebumps books for their book report. Each student has a different book that they had to read and complete a few activities for. One of the activites is to present their book to the class. We have already had 2 presentations, but the majority of them will take place this week. Students are asked to practice their presentation at home and to be very enthusiastic when they are presenting their book. This may include dressing up in a costume and bringing props! They should memorize their presentation as well. They need to choose a paragraph from their book to read to the class. They are encouraged to really focus on being dramatic and taking on the role of the character and not just simply reading. Please encourage your child to practice his/her presentation infront of you!
