The students had a great time enjoying the French music at last week's Franco-Ontarien celebration. Some of the students even had the opportunity to go on stage to help out the band! It is wonderful for the students to see all the French-speaking people we have right in our own community!

In science class the students are learning all about rocks and minerals. So far, we have talked about where we find rocks, what makes up the earth, the rock cycle and are now examining the 3 major rock classifications (igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic). We have quite a good set of rock samples here at school that the students have been able to observe! Do you have any interesting rocks or minerals at home? Feel free to send them in with your child to share with the class! Our first math unit is all about Numbers! We have been representing numbers in a variety of ways, ordering numbers and learning about place value for 4-digit numbers. The students have had the opportunity to use the base 10 materials to compose and decompose a variety of 4-digit numbers.
Here, the students were playing a math version of Yahtzee. They had to roll dice and match with the categories on their card (ie a 6 in the ones place, or the thousands and ones need to equal 9 etc). If you would like a copy let me know and I can send one home with your child so you can play at home! I would like to wish everyone a warm welcome back to school! I hope you all enjoyed a happy and safe summer holiday. I am looking forward to getting to know all of my new students and their families this year. Please take a moment to read over the newsletter sent home on the first day of school outlining some of our school and classroom routines and procedures. Also, please write down any important dates from the "Calendar" section, which has many upcoming events from now through December. Throughout the year, my main form of communicating what's happening in our classroom is through this website, so please be sure to check back often :). If you do not wish for your child's photograph to be included on this website, please inform me in writing. I am looking forward to a wonderful year in grade 4! |
