To celebrate Earth Day, the we went out for a nature scavenger hunt with our jk/sk buddies. Along the way, the students also picked up litter from the ground. We were lucky to have a beautiful sunny day for our walk on Friday :). Back in class, the students worked on their Earth Day "challenge", which was to create an object/item/decoration, using only recycled materials. Next week, the students will be given the opportunity to present their item to the class.

We had the wonderful team from Growing Chefs back again to visit our classroom. During their last visit, the team explained and demonstrated how to make salad dressing. They showed the students about the proper ratios of oil to acid. They also talked about different plants and students learned about many different vegetables, fruits and flowers. This time, the students were given a "Black Box" challenge. They were to create their own salad, using the information they learned in the last session. The teams were only allowed to use the ingredients in their "box" and had to complete their task in 20 minutes. They were also required to plate their salad. Students worked in teams, and each team demonstrated excellent cooperation and teamwork! The judges were impressed with how well the students worked. It was a great afternoon, and we are very happy to have been given this opportunity.
