We have been discussing patterns in math class for the past 2 weeks. We started with geometric patterns and now have moved on to number patterns. A lot of the grade 4 curriculum focuses on growing patterns and having students being able to recognize the "predictability" of a pattern. We spent a few days looking at t-charts, which is a way to organize our growing patterns through a table. Yesterday, the students created an Inukshuk using pattern blocks, then had to figure out how many of each block they would need to make 7 Inukshuks. In one column they would write the number of Inukshuks, in the other column, they would write the number of blocks. Crystal Presentation
Yesterday the students had the opportunity to see a variety of crystals from Mrs. Lopes. She came in and told us all about several different types of minerals and their properties. She also showed us her sound bowl. Each student had the opportunity to put the hands in the sound bowl to feel the frequency. It helped to calm us down too :) Ask your child what they enjoyed most about the presentation. The students had a great time enjoying the French music at last week's Franco-Ontarien celebration. Some of the students even had the opportunity to go on stage to help out the band! It is wonderful for the students to see all the French-speaking people we have right in our own community!
